Volkswagen has made its V6 Amarok, the most powerful ute available in Australia, a fair bit cheaper. The new Sportline model will start at $55,590 driveaway. Compared to the Highline and Ultimate, that’s a $4000 and $19,000 difference in driveaway price.

You get the same 165kW, 550Nm diesel V6, which can crank 180kW and 580Nm on overboost. This runs through the same eight-speed gearbox, getting pulled up with big disc brakes at all corners. There are 18-inch Manaus alloy wheels, and some extra V6 signage
on the tub.

This price puts the Amarok up against big-volume sellers HiLux SR5 and Ranger XLT, which are well beaten by the Amarok with power, torque,
all-wheel drive and smoothness.
