IT-FITS caravan sheets review: I finally found sheets that fit my camper mattress

Tired of caravan sheets bunching up? We tried IT-FITS jersey cotton sheets on a thin camper mattress to see how they fit and feel.

I never thought I’d get excited about a fitted sheet. Yet here I am, looking at the bed in our camper and wondering if I’ve finally found the perfect one.

If you’ve ever tried to make a caravan or camper bed with a mattress that’s thinner, has rounded corners or is a different shape to the one at home, you’ll probably understand. Our camper has a queen-size mattress, but because it’s quite thin, regular queen sheets have always been a bit of a pain.

There’s too much fabric hanging down the sides and not enough mattress depth to keep it all tucked underneath. The result? A wrinkled, bunched-up sheet that refuses to stay where it’s supposed to. And let me tell you, it’s really hard to get comfortable when you can feel the sheets gathering underneath you.

So, when I was given a set of charcoal queen-size IT-FITS sheets to try, I was keen to see whether they could solve a problem that has been annoying me for years.

Why finding caravan sheets that fit can be tricky

Caravan and camper mattresses have a habit of doing their own thing. They can be thinner than a standard mattress, have rounded or cut-off corners, or come in sizes that make shopping for bedding a little more interesting than it needs to be.

In our case, the mattress is queen-size, so you’d think a queen fitted sheet would do the job. But the sheets we’d been using were made to fit a much deeper mattress. With all that excess fabric around the sides, they couldn’t grip our thinner mattress properly.

I’d smooth the sheet out, tuck everything underneath and hope for the best. Before long, it would be wrinkled and bunched up again.

What makes IT-FITS sheets different?

IT-FITS sheets are made from 100% Australian cotton jersey. Rather than being woven like many conventional sheets, the jersey fabric is knitted, giving it a soft, stretchy feel.

The fitted sheet also has elastic all the way around the hem instead of just at the corners. Together, the stretchy fabric and elastic are designed to help it hug the mattress and stay in place, even when the mattress is thinner or a little less conventional.

IT-FITS also has what it calls Magic Corners, designed to make it easier to work out which way the fitted sheet goes on. Anything that saves me from turning a fitted sheet around several times while making a bed in a confined space gets a big green tick from me.

How did they fit our camper mattress?

In one word… beautifully.

The fitted sheet stretched over our queen mattress and sat snugly around it, without all that excess fabric hanging loosely down the sides. The elastic pulled the sheet in underneath, leaving the top smooth and flat.

That might sound like a small thing, but after putting up with sheets that pulled out and bunched up for so long, the difference was immediately obvious. The bed looked better, and I wasn’t left trying to get comfortable on a wrinkled sheet.

For our thin camper mattress, the fit is easily the standout feature. It feels like the sheet is actually made to fit the bed, rather than being something I’ve had to tuck and wrestle into place.

What do they feel like?

The fabric feels lovely. It’s soft and stretchy, with a luxurious feel that makes the bed feel a little more inviting.

I chose charcoal, and I love how it looks in the camper, too. The smooth fit makes the whole bed look neat, and the colour gives it a smart finish. It’s one of those little upgrades that makes the space feel more comfortable without changing anything else.

IT-FITS offers the sheets in a range of colours and sizes, including options for caravan beds and bunks. The company also says its cotton can be traced back to the farm and that the fabric is OEKO-TEX certified.

What I love

  • The fit: The fitted sheet hugs our thin mattress and sits smooth across the top.
  • The feel: The cotton jersey is soft, stretchy and feels luxurious.
  • The look: The charcoal colour looks great, and the bed looks much neater without a rumpled sheet.
  • The practicality: A fitted sheet that works with a thinner mattress makes one little part of camper life much less frustrating.

What I don’t love

The price is the main thing that might make you pause. When I checked the IT-FITS caravan collection, the queen sheet set was listed at $209.50, while the queen fitted sheet was available separately for $84.90. Prices can change, so it’s worth checking the website for the latest.

That’s certainly more than you might spend on a budget set of sheets. But it’s certainly not over the top and for me, this is one of those occasions where paying more for quality and a proper fit is worthwhile.

We spend a lot of time thinking about mattresses, pillows and all the other things that make a bed comfortable. A sheet that bunches up underneath you can undo some of that good work, so I reckon decent bedding is worth investing in, too.

If the fitted sheet is the part causing you grief, being able to buy it on its own is a useful option.

Who are IT-FITS sheets for?

I’d look at these if you have a caravan or camper mattress that’s thin, has rounded corners or just doesn’t seem to get along with regular fitted sheets. IT-FITS also offers smaller sizes for bunks and options for beds at home.

They’re not just for awkward beds, though. I like the feel of the fabric and the smooth fit so much that I’m planning to get a set for our bed at home, too.

The verdict

I didn’t expect a set of sheets to make such a difference to our camper bed, but here we are.

The IT-FITS fitted sheet solved the issue I’d been putting up with for years: it fits our thin queen mattress snugly and leaves a smooth surface to sleep on. Add in the soft fabric and good looks, and I’m a bit smitten.

They’re not the cheapest caravan sheets around, but for the comfort and fit, I think they’re worth the investment. Perhaps the perfect fitted sheet really does exist after all.
