These RVs with office spaces are changing the work-from-home game. Hopefully, we’ll start to see these in Australia, but for now, we’ll keep dreaming – or using the kitchen table.

It’s no secret that in 2023, digital nomads are living in their best era – especially in the USA, where shiny new RVs with dedicated office spaces are popping up everywhere. The COVID-19 pandemic changed an unprecedented (just in case you haven’t heard that word enough) amount of things. One of those was undoubtedly society’s view on remote work. Sources from Gitnuxblog say:

In 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the number of traditional workers operating as digital nomads grew 96% (from 3.2 million to 6.3 million)

In the USA, there are more than 10 million digital nomads. It’s fair to say that more people have embraced the digital revolution. We’re finally getting back to our intrinsic roots to wander, explore and travel the earth.

The question we have to ask is, why aren’t Australian manufacturers jumping on the work-and-play bandwagon? I don’t know about you, but I think RVs with office space are just what this market needs. Before we dive into some 2023 USA models, let’s review the pros and cons of working on the road.

Pros of working on the road in an RV

  • Flexibility: probably the ultimate pro of working in an RV is the freedom it offers. You can wake up, work and travel wherever or whenever you want to. Goodbye office walls, hello nature.
  • Productivity: of course, it’s easy enough to turn your kitchen table into a desk, but if you’re travelling as a family or in a group, it’s not exactly the office environment you’re looking for. Even if you’re travelling alone, having a dedicated office space in your RV will no doubt boost your productivity.
  • Cost-effectiveness: working from an RV office can work out to be cost-effective. You won’t need to pay for train or bus fares, nor will you need to pay for an extra room at home. With the convenience of a fully functional workspace within the RV, digital nomads can save on overhead costs while enjoying the comforts of home.
  • Work-life balance: this one is a no-brainer. Living in an RV offers the chance to strike a harmonious balance between work and leisure.

Cons of working on the road in an RV office

  • Connectivity challenges: You could struggle with a reliable internet connection depending on the location and your Wi-Fi situation. While technological advancements have improved internet coverage, remote areas could pose challenges for digital nomads.
  • Adjusting to change: adapting to a constantly changing environment can be draining and difficult. Think adjusting to new campsites, dealing with road noise, and managing the logistics of RV life and an office on the road.
  • Distraction: while the digital nomad route certainly offers a good blend of work and play, you’ll need to balance those scales carefully. Staying disciplined could be challenging with so much on your doorstep to explore.

Despite the cons, I’d still love to get my hands on one of these 2023 digital nomad-friendly RV models with office spaces. Check these out.

RVs with built-in office spaces

2023 Keystone Montana 3941FO

The Keystone Montana 3941FO is a luxurious fifth-wheel RV that features a spacious front office complete with a fitted desk, storage and counter space. There’s not only enough space for a digital nomad but peace and quiet too. The storage capacity is awesome in this office. But what really takes the cake for me is that window and the potential for an epic work view.

Floor plan highlights:

  • Private front office
  • Private bedroom with a king bed
  • Rear storage
  • Spacious full bath

Need to know:

  • Sleeps: 6
  • Length: 13.2 metres
  • Weight: 6,840 kg

Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB Office

RV with office

The Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB Office is a family and digital nomad-friendly travel trailer that combines comfort and functionality. This RV includes a designated corner office space featuring multiple USB ports, a pop-up USB/AC outlet and heaps of overhead storage. The space also comes with a swivel chair that can be secured with a strap when you’re on the road. With multiple floor plans available, this trailer is definitely high on customisation. Little wonder it won the 2021 Red Dot Design Award! Personally, I love the interiors; it’s super stylish.

Highlights:

  • Corner office
  • Private bedroom with a queen bed
  • Full bathroom

Need to know:

  • Sleeps: 6
  • Length: 9 metres
  • Weight: 3,064 kg

KZ Connect C292RD

The KZ Connect C292RDK does what it says on the tin. This beast (or should we say, beauty) is similar to the Airstream in size, with some of the luxuries of the Keystone Montana thrown in (hello, king-size bed). The RV office space (which comes with a chair) is slightly smaller and, unlike the models above, doesn’t have its own room. On the plus side, if you’re travelling with just a partner or solo, you might enjoy working in a brighter, more open space.

Floor plan highlights:

  • Desk with Chair
  • Walk-In Pantry
  • Kitchen Island
  • Private Bedroom

Need to know:

  • Sleeps: 5
  • Length: 9.7 metres
  • Weight: 3,288 kg

Fleetwood Frontier GTX 37RT

RV with office

Fleetwood’s 2023 motorhome model is, without doubt, one of their best yet. The Frontier GTX is a large Class A motorhome available in two different floor plans. The one we’ve got our eyes on is the 37RT, which includes a snug RV corner office at the rear of the vehicle. What I don’t love about this office is the fact that it’s attached to the bedroom. In an RV, that’s not a huge deal-breaker, but personally, it’s not my favourite layout.

Floor plan highlights:

  • Private office
  • Private bedroom with king bed
  • Queen-sized sofa bed
  • Base and full pass-through storage

Need to know:

  • Sleeps: 6
  • Length: 11.5 metres
  • Weight: 15,150 kg

Hopefully, soon we’ll start to see these in Australia. For now, we’ll keep dreaming – or using the kitchen table!
