American lifestyle product manufacturer, Winnebago, hasrevealed its highly-anticipated electric RV prototype, the eRV2, in response to the growing demand for sustainable forms of road travel. A fully-operational prototype of its all-electric, zero-emission RV was revealed at the Florida RV SuperShow in Florida, in January 2023.
The revolutionary all-electric, zero-emission RV runs on a Ford E-Transit chassis. And is powered by a proprietary IonBlade lithium house battery, which has more than 15,000 usable watt-hours. It’s stored beneath the floor to maximise interior space.
Designed with sustainability in mind
The eRV2 has everything from sustainable and recycled materials to renewable plant-based cab seat coverings and biodegradable acrylic countertops. They have even gone as far as including unique broad colour-spectrum lighting that allows you to change the interior lights from white to red. This helps to reduce light pollution and subsequent negative effects on native flora and fauna. Talk about doing it for the environment!
Centred on modern user needs
But that’s not all! The RV is built for maximum comfort and convenience, with a modern interior inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian design principles. Including adaptable workspaces and a high-speed Wi-Fi router. Winnebago really has thought of everything…Did we mention the control features are all in a connected, app-based experience?
Extensive consumer research around the demand
Winnebago engaged consumers throughout the eRV2’s production to ensure the prototype meets their needs and desires. Rigorous field testing is currently underway to inform the final design before the RV hits dealerships in the future.
“Our primary goal in building the eRV2 was to help people comfortably explore the world around them with less environmental impact,” said Huw Bower, president of the Winnebago brand.
“The eRV2 embodies our pioneering legacy, representing not only an achievement in design, innovation and sustainability. But also our commitment to continuously evolve with the changing needs of consumers and the world we share.”
The eRV2 is now in full-on pilot test mode. On February 16th 2023, Winnebago shared on their Facebook page that the eRV2 had clocked 4,936 test miles and 64 nights of camping with 12 testers. Their aim is to collect an understanding of what testers love about the all-electric RV prototype. They of course also want to know what could be bettered.
Although this electric RV is in its testing phase, the increased demand for EVs has us very optimistic about the possibility of it becoming available for purchase in the future. We always say it, but wouldn’t it be cool to really leave no trace?
