TRAKKA unveils its newest addition to the line-up: The TRAKKA Akuna

After three years in development and design, TRAKKA is launching its newest offering, the Akuna, which is based on the Volkswagen Crafter platform. The chosen platform features the VW 2.0-litre, 130kW turbo-diesel engine, mated with an eight-speed auto transmission. This package offers a quality and reliable two-wheel-drive touring platform, which is available in both a mid- and long-wheelbase model and with three different layouts across the Akuna range.

Standard features of the new range include a TRAKKA’s cool switch-mode bathroom, with an electric sliding toilet that hides under the basin when not in use, to give a very generous ensuite. There’s also a remote touring pack, which allows a single fuel source to look after all the ancillary power needs, from the diesel-fueled cooktop, diesel water and cabin heating, as well as offering 200-watts of solar panels mounted to the roof, and insect screens on both the side and rear doors.

The electrical nerve-centre is composed of a full Enerdrive system, with a 200Ah lithium ‘house’ battery, the 200-watts of solar up top, 240-volt lithium charger, DC-DC charging ability from the VW’s engine, plus a five-stage solar charger. Plus, you can also add a 2000-watt inverter to keep those 240-volt appliances you need to take running while you’re on the road. As you would expect, there is a monitoring system that shows power levels and usage, as well as water levels, battery condition, and vehicle levelling information.

New materials are employed throughout with 3D laminate benchtops and a fibreglass-reinforced thermoplastic composite used for the flooring, instead of the traditional plywood. Interestingly, TRAKKA has gone away from a traditional terrestrial wind-up TV antenna, in favour of a proper GSM antenna to increase mobile reception and coverage, so you can opt for Netflix or Foxtel (as well as free-to-air TV) over a mobile data network.
