Celebrating 70 years since the original hit the roads, Volkswagen has released an updated Kombi. Originally destined as a passenger and goods van, the Kombi had easily removed rear seats to double as a passenger van. And as history showed, it was one of the truly original RVs.
And this new model, based on a Multivan TDI340 Comfortline DSG, looks to continue (and cash in on) the icon. The two-tone paint and retro-inspired alloys make it look the part, and a ‘Good Night Package’ gives you the ability to convert the rear seats into a bed, along with storage drawers under the seats.
Rather than the original 1131cc, 18kW air-cooled flat-four, the contemporary Kombi uses a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, which makes 103kW and 340Nm. Prices for this slick sleeper start at $64,990, with a starting date of early March. If you’re keen, register your interest early: only 120 are available.
