We take a look at the future of RVing with Living Vehicle’s Cyber Trailer. Could this futuristic trailer spell the end for traditional caravans?

Up until this point, towing and Electric Vehicles (EVs) have not been a match made in heaven. The obvious problem being, that once you hook your RV up, your EV’s range is severely depleted, so you can’t holiday too far from home at all.

But rather than just keep complaining about how EVs are sh** for towing and trying to hammer a round peg into a square hole, wouldn’t it make more sense to design and manufacture an RV that was actually suitable to be towed by an EV? Instead of expecting the EVs to ‘’get better’’ at it?

Well, it seems that Living Vehicle has tried to do that with the Cyber Trailer. It’s like something out of a sci-fi film, and it could potentially turn the concept of off-grid living in your caravan on its head. And although the mock-up images on their website show it being towed by a Cyber Truck (making it a little hard to take seriously), it can also be towed by other EVs and even standard vehicles. Providing of course, they’re rated to tow its weight.

Meet the Cyber Trailer – it’s powered by the sun (literally)

Forget worrying about finding a charging station or connecting to utilities. The Cyber Trailer is powered entirely by solar energy, meaning it can stay off-grid for weeks, if not months. With up to 5kW of solar capacity, it’s got enough juice to power your luxuries and those panels aren’t just on the roof – the clever design uses solar-tracking awnings to make sure it’s soaking up the sun all day long.

And it doesn’t just power your gadgets. It can also top up your EV or even keep traditional fuel and diesel rides running smoothly. This mobile charging station turns the whole idea of “running out of power” into a thing of the past.

How does the Cyber Trailer get around the reduced range when towing problem?

Let’s get a bit techy. The Cyber Trailer boasts proprietary power-assist axles that help reduce battery drain while towing. This means you can head further off the beaten path without sweating about how much charge is left. Plus, its aerodynamic design – with a drag coefficient of just 0.39 – makes it way more efficient, whether you’re towing with an EV or a combustion engine. Long story short? It’s designed to keep you going.

Creating resources off-grid

Here’s where it gets really interesting. Instead of just lugging around massive water tanks or battery packs, the Cyber Trailer has tech that actually creates resources while you travel. It generates up to 34 litres (9 gallons) of water a day straight from the air (yep, you read that right) and recycles water with a system that’s 90% efficient.

So, not only can you live comfortably off-grid, but you can do it sustainably without constantly worrying about how much water you’ve got left.

Luxury meets versatility inside

Step inside, and it’s clear that the Cyber Trailer doesn’t skimp on comfort. We’re talking yacht-quality materials and finishes that give off a luxury feel without losing practicality. The living area can shift between six different room setups, so whether you need a lounge, a workspace, or extra sleeping quarters, it’s got you covered. And with a fold-down patio and massive 2.4 metre (8-foot) patio slider, you’re never too far from that fresh, open-air vibe.

All this fancy tech stuff aside, it’s actually quite a nice design for a caravan.

Adventure-ready storage and features

For those who like to bring their toys along, the Cyber Trailer has room for everything. There’s a rear toy-hauler ramp for storing bikes, kayaks, or even motorcycles, plus a gear locker perfect for snowboards, skis, and surfboards.

Is it for everyone?

Well, it’s not cheap…so no. Also, if you wanted one, you’d have to import it from the USA. As that its around USD 175,000, with thanks to our not-so-fun current USD-AUD exchange rate, that places it around AUD 261,637 before import fees and taxes.

Why the Cyber Trailer stands out

Ultimately, the Cyber Trailer isn’t just a fancy caravan. It’s rethinking how we use resources on the road. Instead of making everything bigger, it’s smarter. It creates what you need, rather than making you lug it all with you. For the adventure-hungry, that means more freedom, less worry, and a whole new way to hit the road.

Curious? Take a look at the Living Trailer Website for more information and check out what the future of RVing looks like. Spoiler alert … it looks good.

Will we see it in Australia anytime soon? Probably not. But wouldn’t it be great to see a local manufacturer take some of these ideas and craft something new?
