We take a look at Yamaha’s range of portable generators for caravans and share two of our favourite inverter generators and why.
There are a few things in this world we four-wheel drivers and caravanners won’t compromise on. Cold beers, a comfy seat and a touch of luxury at our dream campsite. As technology advances, we expect more and more out of our setup, and sometimes that needs a little support.
In the caravan and RV world, there are some seriously tech-heavy products that some of us have become reliant on for a good time, and a good time is high on the list of things we all want. Is this sounding like you? I thought as much.
Maybe you’re worried about running out of power while off-grid or even just powering those extremely high-draw accessories. What on earth are you going to do? Don’t worry, Yamaha has the answer you’ve been looking for with their range of generators for caravans and I’m here to tell you all about it.
What is an inverter generator?
An inverter generator is nothing new to the caravanning world and is an excellent option for those chasing some extra power. Inverter generators produce their power in a ‘pure sine wave’ fashion. Basically, making it smooth and consistent compared to traditional generators.
They’re quieter than a traditional generator and produce power in three different stages including high-frequency AC, stable AC and DC. This makes them perfect for more sensitive devices like phones, laptops and audio equipment.
Two of our favourite generators for caravans from Yamaha
Yamaha’s range of inverter generators aren’t just some of the best in the business, but also caters to pretty much everyone with options starting from 1kVA right through to the mega 6.3kVA. There are two generators in the range that have quickly become our favourites for caravans and we’re going to talk about them today.
Yamaha EF2200iS
Kicking things off for caravan generators, we have the Yamaha EF2200iS. This is one of the perfect blends between power (2200 watts), whilst being compact enough to be portable. When packing for a camping trip, space is at a premium, and the EF2200iS will be able to fit pretty much anywhere measuring 555mm long, 300mm wide, 470mm high and weighing in at just 25kg.
The 4.7L fuel capacity will give you 10 hours of run time on eco-mode and it has a boost mode for when you need a little bit of extra grunt. Like all good inverter generators, the Yamaha EF2200iS has a stack of power outlets, but unlike other brands, you’re not limited to specific USB outlets. Yamaha has given you an epic and versatile 12v 3a DC outlet instead.
Sold? So are we. However, the best is yet to come! What we think is the most impressive feature of this generator is the Yamaha ‘TwinTech Parallel’ kit, but we’ll go into this a little later.
Yamaha EF2400iS
The next crowd favourite is the beefier EF2400iS model. This kick-ass unit is one of Yamaha’s best-selling inverter generators and will be right at home in your caravan or RV for when you need a little power support while off-grid. Whether it’s powering your caravan’s air-conditioning or just running those extra glamping essentials, the EF2400iS will be perfect.
As you’d expect the EF2400iS is a little larger than the EF2200iS model, coming in at 527mm long, 419mm wide and 459mm tall and weighing 7kg more. The 6L fuel capacity will help get you to a 9-hour run time with eco-mode on, which means it will last the best part of your day. Alternatively, fully fueled up, it can chug its way through the night quietly.
The EF2400iS is currently the most compact and lightest unit in its class and just like the EF2200iS, is Yamaha ‘TwinTech Parallel’ enabled.
What exactly is that? Let’s talk about it.
Yamaha TwinTech Parallel Technology
Welcome to the future and welcome to one of our favourite features of the Yamaha EF2200/2400iS models, the TwinTech Parallel Technology. With the TwinTech kit (which is available separately), you can connect two of the same generators for almost double the power output for your caravan while retaining the voltage and frequency of one compact unit.
This is the flexibility we’ve been dreaming of and is ideal for backup house power. But when you go camping, you can just take one or the other to save space. Pretty impressive hey?
What if you need more power from your caravan generator?
Alright alright, I’m hearing you! You want to know what other options there are in the Yamaha range if your caravan is a little more power-hungry than what the EF2200iS or EF2400iS generators can provide you with. Well luckily, Yamaha has an inverter generator for just about everyone.
Yamaha has a few other options including the EF3000iSE and the EF6300iSE. As their names suggest, the EF3000iSE is a 3000-watt capacity inverter generator that can comfortably run for 20 hours. The EF3000iSE also features an electronic start for the ultimate in ease and is just as comfortable in a caravanning setting as it is at the construction site.
The EF6300iSE is the heavy hitter of the Yamaha inverter generator range. At 91kg and packing 6300 watts of power, this genny will be the King Kong of the work site. It’s complete with an electric start and an optional wireless remote control (the wireless remote does not come standard). This generator has the grunt to power even the highest-demand items such as commercial pumps, air-conditioners and everything in between.
These caravan generators are backed by a national dealer network and a four-year warranty
Loving what you’ve read about caravan generators so far? I had a feeling you would. What’s even better is that Yamaha has an incredible national dealer network with over 500 dealers scattered all around the country. The cherry on top is the unbeatable Yamaha warranty, giving you a staggering four years of domestic use or one year of commercial use.
When it comes to powering your dream lifestyle, you really can’t go past the Yamaha range of inverter generators. With a bit of luck, I’ll see you out at your favourite campsite, and I might even catch you with a brand spanking new genny!
