Back in July, we let you know that the ACCC had issued a safety recall on the 500 Series Cooker/Grill and Cooktops supplied by Casale Trim Co Pty Ltd t/as Swift Group. Now we’re pleased to tell you that there is finally a remedy for recalled models. Make sure to immediately arrange an inspection of your cooker and repair it if required.

Who’s repairing it and what will it cost me?

Rest assured, this service won’t add any pain to your pockets. It’s free of charge and will be handled by the manufacturer. Inspection and repairs will be carried out under a remedy Swift has negotiated with the Gas Technical Regulators Committee (GTRC). Your safety is the priority.

Why were they recalled?

Unfortunately, three people suffered serious injuries and burns resulting from using a defective Swift cooker. The ACCC didn’t want to see any more injuries occur and therefore issued a warning and recall. About 11,000 of the cookers, manufactured between 1 January 2019 and 31 May 2020, are affected.

The first step is to check if your cooker is one that’s been recalled. If you’ve been affected and you’re not already registered for the recall, make sure to contact Swift Appliance Group as a matter of urgency. Swift can then arrange an inspection and potential repair for you.

What’s the remedy?

The remedy process involves first inspecting the tube that supplies gas to the front left burner. This will be checked to ensure that it’s fitted correctly and shows no signs of wear. If your burner tubes are damaged or ill-fitting they’ll be replaced.

What can I do in the meantime?

To be on the safe side, consumers have been advised not to use the front left burner of their cooker until they have been inspected. To ensure others don’t accidentally use it, remove the knob and store it out of reach.

Don’t forget that as a general rule, your gas cooker unit should be serviced and tested every two to three years.
