By now you’ll have heard about the changes to and interpretation of GVM/GCM laws across some Australian states. Despite the mainstream media beating up the issues involved, there may not be a need to rush out right this instant, as one Courier-Mail journalist said, and buy a ‘big, fuel-inefficient, American truck!’
In Issue 31 of RV Daily (out on September 29) we will clarify exactly what you can and can’t do in terms of GVM upgrades whether it be pre, or post first registration. GCM and towing upgrades have, however, remained rather messy with separate states adopting different rules based on their own interpretation of the federal legislation. The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) has announced an industry-wide meeting to take place on October 4, to further discuss GCM Upgrades, and how this will impact the general public as well as industry members.
As we’ve said before, a certain amount of caution needs to be taken when reading the mass-media beat-ups of the changes and armed with our guide due out at the end of the month, you will have the information required to enable you to make informed decisions about GVM/GCM and your towing rig.
Once the AAAA meeting of October 4 has taken place, we will update you further with where the market sits in relation to the changes to the GCM and tow rating upgrades. Watch this space!
