We recently did a Q&A with Tash and Josh that had us dreaming of #buslife with their build, Norman The Bus. It turns out Norman The Bus was named after the salesman that sold Tash and Josh the bus before they transformed it. However, it got us thinking about creative ways to name your trailer or caravan.
Here’s what we’ve come up with.
Use an online name generator
Okay, you could lose an hour or two of your life that you’ll never get back doing it this way. But it’s a lot of fun! There are countless online name generators on the internet but this RV Name Quiz from Generator Fun works a treat.
Subsequently, my camper is now called Jean-Claude Damn Van.
Find inspiration in the number plate
Sometimes you get lucky and your state department of transport has already named it for you with a rego plate that actually spells something.
052JAZ or TIM319, either way, this will save you some money if you ever feel the urge to fork out for a personalised plate.
Speaking of celebrities…
There’s no reason why you can’t steal a name from a celebrity and maybe even change it up a bit. Wanna name your trailer Optimus Prime? Go ahead. Vin Diesel? Jim Car-ray? Van Morrison? Yep, go ahead and use them too.
Channel your spirit animal
It’s crazy how similar animals and RVs are, right? They both dwell outdoors and many run on twos or fours. The similarities don’t end there … oh wait, they do. Anyway, just pick an animal and make it work for your trailer or caravan.
The Bear? The Dog House? It doesn’t even have to be a real animal. If you want to holiday in Cyber Ninja Cat, go ahead and do it. Whatever floats your boat.
Use humour
Most Australians tend to use humour when thinking of a name for their trailer or caravan. So go ahead and choose a lighthearted name, get a sticker made up and slap it on the back of your RV to bring a smile to the face of anyone following you.
Wanna annoy the kids? Name your trailer Dwindling Inheritance. Wanna gross them out? Name it The Love Shack. Wanna relive your youth? Name it Mary Jane or The Big Bong.
Use music as your inspiration
Music is a great source of inspiration for naming your trailer. You can use humour and change it up, use the artist or song, or go straight to the source and use the name as is.
Names like Layla, Gypsy, Van Halen, Hotel California, Bobby McGee, Thunder Road and Ziggy Stardust go straight to the source.
For those wanting to add a little humour to their music inspiration, try:
- Get Riggy With It
- RV Human or RV Dancer
- Baby’s Got Back
Name it after your trailer or caravan … literally
I think possibly the easiest way is to literally name it after your trailer or caravan. Do you have a blue retro teardrop camper? Call it Blue Drop. Got a Winnebago? Call it Winnie. Got an older Jayco with more than a few squeaks? Call it Squeaky J.
Have you named your caravan or trailer? We’d love to know what it is and how you came up with the name!
