You’ve heard of Track Trailers, right? They’ve been around for nearly 40 years and have been building their iconic Tvans for a quarter of a century now. They’ve just released a pair of special edition models to commemorate that milestone, the Tvan Firetail and Firetail Spark.
Fun fact: when the Tvan was first in development way back in the 90s, its working title was “Firetail”, so Track thought it was a fitting title to give the updated versions. They’ve even incorporated a limited-edition colour scheme with a splash of orange on the back end to go with the name.
The Tvan Firetail and Firetail Spark are based on the very first Tvan design while incorporating a host of modern touches. Essentially, they’re built on the ethos of being lightweight yet chock full of features and handy camping additions. Track Trailers see them as the perfect step-up from a traditional camper to the comfort and convenience of a hybrid without having to tow a bunch of extra weight.
The Tvan Firetail
Simple, reliable and capable of handling the toughest terrain Australia has to offer. The Tvan Firetail is based on the Mk1 Tvan – a simple and lightweight camper that is designed to get the job done comfortably.
It also packs a bunch of convenience and comfort in without adding too much weight, which, as we all know, is the enemy of both capability and reasonable fuel consumption. The two front boots are sealed and feature 12V power and venting, with the passenger side having a fridge slide built in. Other features include diesel-powered hot water and heating, 120W of solar, a 40A Redarc BC-DC, a 25A battery charger and a 125Ah Revolution Eco lithium battery that’s overseen by a battery management display.
In the looks and comfort departments the exclusive Tvan Firetail colour scheme adorns the exterior along with the Jet Grey canvas. Speaking of, there’s a Quick Cover swing out awning to keep the campsite shady and/or dry. Moving inside, 4 USB sockets are positioned down the sides of the bed while the roof storage and side-wall pockets keep the knick-knacks organised. An under-mattress liner keeps the outside temps from impacting your sleep while a 3-speed fan with a timer prevents you from cooking during the warmer months.
The kitchen is a stainless and alloy slide-out that’s super-stout and does not need any legs for support. It features twin burners, a tunnel pantry (accessible form both sides), an electric pump-fed sink with hot and cold water and a large cutlery drawer.
The Tvan Firetail retails for $76,500 (which is a hefty saving of over five grand) and can be configured with the full range of available options from Track to personalise your set-up perfectly.
The Tvan Firetail Spark
The Tvan Firetail Spark represents the latest and greatest technological innovation from Track Trailers. Based on the Mk5 Tvan, the Spark is aimed at the high-end of the market and is designed for people who have refined their requirements, or those who simply prefer to buy top-of-the-range.
The Spark has the same features as the standard Firetail, with a few upgrades in some key areas. The front lockers have slides on both sides along with a drawer and insulation. It also comes with an ensuite tent, a premium kitchen with three burners and 240V power outlets, and 2 additional windows and a vent under the bed. The trailer suspension has also been given a boost with 1.8T GVM and 12” electric brakes, giving it class leading carrying capacity, as well as 33in tyres on 17×8 alloy wheels.
The real kicker, however, is the increase in 12V inclusions. The Tvan Firetail Spark also gets two 100Ah Projecta lithium batteries, a Redarc 2000W inverter, 200W of roof mounted solar, Redarc Redvision & Manager 30 and is controlled by a Redarc Rogue TVMS 40A control and distribution system.
This is a serious set-up and is more than capable of handling even the most demanding of requirements. Want a morning espresso while checking your emails courtesy of a Starlink internet connection? The Firetail Spark has you covered.
The electrical set-up is enabled by the new lower body design, which houses the electrical components in one location, reducing voltage drop and improving safety with cut-off switching.
The Tvan Firetail Spark starts from $86,500 (saving you over $6000) and, like the Firetail, is able to be customised to suit your individual needs.
About Track Trailer
Track Trailer first started in 1985 with a camper package that could be mounted to any 6×4 box trailer. Since then, they’ve never stopped researching and developing new innovations, which has made them one of the premiere Australian camper builders.
Military contracts, ground-up suspension builds, and a continual refinement of their design process brought about the Tvan in 1999, a combination of lightweight, rugged capability and renowned ease of set-up and comfort levels. It remains one of the best-selling campers on the market to this day.
