As the Perth 4WD and Adventure Show celebrates 30 years, it can proudly boast the largest caravan display area of all the events. Three decades ago, back when Paul Keating was the top dog in Australia and George H. W. Bush was the American President, the Australian 4WD and Adventure Show kicked off in Perth. Although it now includes shows in both Sydney and Adelaide, Perth is where it all started.

Show Director Peter Woods said the 30th anniversary of the 4WD and Adventure Shows was a great achievement and a sign that Australians really do love the great outdoors. “The 4WD and Adventure Shows are designed for people to get the gear they need to get out and explore our great country,” Peter said.

“Each year we bring new attractions and special guests to keep the show fresh. Over the years we’ve seen many famous faces as part of the show including Mal Leyland from the Leyland Brothers, the late Malcolm Douglas who was the original crocodile hunter, Aussie favourites Ernie Dingo, Andrew Ettingshausen and Merv Hughes, and more recently Graham Cahill and Shauno from 4WD 247, Jase Andrews from All 4 Adventure and Pat Callinan,” Peter said.

The cooking demonstrations

Head to the Camp Cooking Demo Area to see both Harry Fisher from Fire to Fork and Jo Clews.

Harry sees no reason why you shouldn’t eat well while you’re camping and having grown up with a mother who is a trained chef, and a father who loves being out in the bush, he has been camping and cooking his whole life. Harry tries to source ingredients from the land and has just released his first book with all his favourite camp recipes.

Jo Clews is a country girl who’s lived and worked in various remote and regional areas of Western Australia. She likes nothing more than cooking outdoors on the camp oven and encourages everyone she meets to experiment with their own cooking so they can master more than just sausage in a bun. Jo has also published a book of her own recipes called Australian Camp Oven Cooking.
