Indian 4WD manufacturer Mahindra has updated its Pik-Up 4WD ute for 2018, bringing extra grunt and a new look to the brand. It’s still a high-value proposition, with prices ranging from $26,990 to $31,990.
There’s a 2.2-litre Mhawk turbo-diesel engine under the bonnet, making 103kW and 330Nm. All that peak torque is available between 1600 and 2800rpm, and now runs through a six-speed manual gearbox.
Mahindra has spent some time testing and developing the Pik-Up for local conditions in Australia, racking up a not-too-shabby 80,000km over six months. It hasn’t gone into any detail, but we’ll find the proof in the pudding when we road test this new unit soon.
The S6 specification is the lowest, with a fairly basic overall set-up: steelies with hubcaps, single-DIN stereo, fabric seats, air conditioning and not much else. No bells and whistles here but if you’re wanting a basic 4WD ute that doesn’t empty the pockets as hard as others, it’s worth a look.
A single-cab (cab-chassis) S6 Pik-Up is $26,990 (driveaway), which is definitely one of the cheapest options out there. A dual-cab starts at $29,490 driveaway. Getting an S10 dual cab will cost $31,990. They all come with a five-year, 100,000 kilometre warranty and five years of roadside assist.
