LSX: a 454-cubic-inch race engine built from the legendary line of Chevy LS V8 engines. It’s a crate motor made purely for racing, making a stonking 578kW @ 7000rpm and 879Nm from its 7.4 litres of naturally-aspirated cast iron.
Now, LSX also means Holden Colorado, minus the LSX. It’s a new styling option for the Colorado, giving you black 18” alloys, all-terrain tyres and black flares. The rear end also gets corresponding black accessories, dominated by the blacked-out tailgate emblazoned with the model name. Those tyres, by the way, look to be a Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmour, with Kevlar-reinforced sidewalls.
No LSX under the bonnet here, it’s business as usual for the specially-specced Colorado: a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel, making 147kW and 500Nm (auto) or 440Nm (manual). The suspension is all the same, as well: IFS and rear leaves. Unfortunately, there aren’t any special go-fast bits or unique tunes; you’ll have to wait for SportsCat for that stuff.
The Colorado LSX is available only as a dual-cab, but you can choose between a tub or alloy tray. You can pick one up, driveaway, for a sharp $44,990. Normal RRP is $51,945 for the tub, or $50,055 for the tray. Opt for the auto and pay an extra $2200. So it’s a decent value proposition, made interesting with the tray option and some special-looking gear.
