Want to buy your very own caravan park … and town?

Tarraleah Estate is up for sale and includes a town with church, caravan park and lake
Looking for a unique investment opportunity to complement your love of adventure travel? Ever considered owning your own caravan park? Think about it. Domestic tourism is finally on the rise. Caravan parks offer convenient and affordable accommodation for travellers, and you’d get to meet all sorts of interesting people all while working in a beautiful setting.
Interested? Because right now an entire Australian town is on the market, and it comes complete with a church, caravan park and a lake that’s teeming with trout. All you need is a little over $12 million and it could all be yours.
Tarraleah Estate, located in Tasmania’s central highlands, was originally built in the 1930’s to house Hydro workers. It once was home to almost 2,000 residents, but Tarraleah Estate fell into disrepair in the late 80’s and early 90’s. However, the 147-hectare property has a lot to offer potential buyers wanting to transform the lands into a resort destination.
The caravan park overlooks the pristine lake, as do a handful of lakeside villas. The lake itself is stocked with brown trout, making it a flyfisher’s dream. Additionally, there is a 1930’s lodge on the main road that features luxury accommodation offering nine suites, plus a dining room, library and fireplace. The old town school has also been renovated and now offers 11 studio rooms with a shared lounge and kitchen. The communal living accommodation is now called The Scholars House.
Tarraleah Estate also boasts two restaurants with whiskey and wine cellars, beer garden and fireplaces. There’s a Great Hall which can host up to 150 guests, and includes three en suite accommodation rooms, an apartment and squash court. You’ll also find a reception building with retail shops, art gallery offices and commercial laundry. Right beside that, another building offers accommodation for potential resort staff, including seven bedrooms and shared lounge.
The property comes fully equipped too, with a functioning town water supply, electricity, telecommunications infrastructure and roads!
But there’s so much more that you could do with the property too. In fact, there is a prime vacant plot of land right beside the lake that’s already been tapped for a development of 71 homes, and the community development scheme is already ready for final approvals.
Owned by the same property developer since 2006, Tarraleah Estate has been on the market for a number of years, garnering lots of interest both from potential local and international buyers. However, so far nobody has made the right offer.
The seller is looking for expressions of interest in excess of $12 million. Could the next owner and mayor of Tarraleah Estate be you?
