Dubbed the Smart Connector, ARK has unveiled what they say is the world’s first 12-pin vehicle socket that auto-checks your trailer lights for you and warns you of any potential issues. Anyone who has ever towed solo will understand exactly how useful this could be.
As soon as your trailer is plugged in, the Smart Connector checks and activates the lights in sequence, giving you enough time to do a visual check of the trailer lights to make sure everything is still working hunky-dory.
And because we live in a modern world, you can also connect to the ARK Smart Connector via an app with your Apple or Android device. Why would you want to do this? Well, because it allows you to run the check anytime you want.
Also of note
The ability to run a vehicle cable check is of particular interest when it comes to finding and diagnosing trailer light problems. Now, this is especially handy as it can tell you if the lighting circuit issue is on the trailer side or the vehicle side of the Smart Connector.
Also of note, the Smart Connector incorporates ARK’s popular AH17 universal towbar wiring harness functionality within the device, allowing you to combat issues faced with modern vehicle ECUs when using more traditional methods of wiring a towbar harness in the vehicle. The ARK Smart Connector uses the same plugs as the wiring harness in the AH17, so if your vehicle is already fitted with an AH17, it’s a pretty simple retrofit.
We haven’t got our hands on one of these to try it out yet, but if it works exactly like ARK says it does, then this little gadget is a winner-winner chicken dinner.
