German RV manufacturer, Knaus, has revealed their updated Knaus Azur caravan and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. What we’re most excited about is the innovative technology that allows the frame to self-heal. Could this be the way of the future?

What is a self-healing frame?

Sounds like something from a futuristic movie, right? Well, it may as well be. The Knaus Azur’s frame consists of 22 fibre frame parts bonded together by a robot. This fibre frame is unique as it requires no screws or bolts. Due to it being a self-supporting frame, it eliminates weight, making it far more structurally stable and durable.

The Azur’s surface is UV-resistant and according to Knaus, it’s also self-healing. You’ll see pressure marks and dents disappear on their own via the application of heat. What this means is that on the occasion that the frame is scratched by a branch or tree, all you need to do is expose your caravan to the sun. Once it’s exposed to this heat, the scratch will disappear.

Features of the Knaus Azur

U-shaped seating group

In the caravan’s interior, you’ll find a cosy U-shaped seating group that can also easily convert into a wider area. If you’ve got family and friends in tow, this can create two separate sleeping areas for up to four people. Comfort is exemplified by the dynamic LED ambient lighting, allowing you to set the mood inside. The entire interior takes on the theme of comfort, allowing this caravan to be a home away from home where you can thoroughly wind down.

Lighting

Lighting is also a unique characteristic of the Azur. You’ll find that inside, the joint bands of all the furniture are illuminated and the straight lines of the entire interior are underlined with light. This lighting style was developed especially for the Knaus model, and consists of several light segments that switch on and off, gradually brightening or darkening the interior space.

Smart-wall

Just when you thought this caravan was innovative enough, the Knaus Azur features smart-wall technology. This consists of sculpturally designed, fabric-covered walls that contain storage compartments and shelves behind them. This allows you to store your things without the cluttered look that often comes with a trip.

If you’re looking for more storage space, the Knaus Azur also boasts hidden spaces for discreet storage areas, including behind-the-back cushions of the seats. Due to this design, you may be dreading the constant sound of opening and closing flaps and drawers. However, Knaus has seemingly thought of it all and has installed a soft-close function on all.

What initially piqued our interest in this new caravan was its self-healing design that eliminates any dents or marks via heat from the sun. However, now that the entire picture has been drawn, it’s easy to see how much thought Knaus has also put into their clever interior design. The Knaus Azur is yet another exciting step toward new technology for our on-the-road and weekender homes.
