We try out a safer alternative – the Lynx Hooks Stash Bag
There undoubtedly will come a time where you’ll be reaching for something to either tie down a load or hold a tarp in place. But what you reach for to do the job can determine how easily you make that job secure. When we came across an interesting multi-use bag of tricks known as the Lynx Hooks Outdoorsman Stash Bag at a show, we wanted to know how this little bag could make any tie-down jobs we had easier.
Inside the bag, we found a range of straps, hooks, and other bits and pieces to hold and tie things down. While the concept is similar to a bungee cord or an occy strap, that’s where any similarities end. This tie-down system has been cleverly designed as the hooks can be easily snapped together and linked like a daisy chain, to extend the overall length for those larger jobs. This technique alone provides loads of versatility for using the hooks, and a safer tie down option than the dangerous bungee/occy straps we’d previously been using.
The design also accommodates some stretch when tensioning, thanks to the rubber webbing which is covered in an all-weather resistant woven polyester fabric that comes in a range of colours. The hard and rigid ABS plastic hooks and buckles attach to this fabric, and it’s the buckles that allow you to pull the load down and make adjustments without having to mess around with knots or over stretching cords.
The pack also contains a product called grabbers – these small, half-moon shaped clips allow you to grab onto fabrics and tarps without causing permanent holes when connected to the plastic hooks. We found these to be magical in their application as they had a range of uses around camp.
WHAT’S IN THE BAG
Adjustable from 480mm to 1140mm. If you were to lock them together you can have 4570mm of adjustable length.
These are perfect for creating a secure anchor point around larger diameter objects and even square tubing.
When threaded correctly with a Lynx Hook, it allows you to anchor hold onto fabric such as canvas and plastic tarps without damaging the fabric.
We found everything in the bag useful and easy to use. Appropriately named the Stash Bag, ours has been stashed away and ready to hook, lock and secure our next load. More details available on the video. RRP$119
