We take a look at caravan camera integration with Advanced ICE and why integrating your cameras with your vehicle’s pre-existing info screen is the best way to go.

Getting a camera for your caravan or camper trailer is a no-brainer these days, especially if you’re towing a big rig. I mean, even with the best set of Clearviews money can buy, this doesn’t solve the problem of seeing directly behind your caravan. Only a caravan camera can do this for you.

And although there are a number of caravan camera kits on the market you can buy that come with a camera or two and a monitor that you’ll either hang off your rear-view mirror or mount on your dash, there’s actually a much better way.

It’s called caravan camera integration.  But what is it?

What is caravan camera integration? And why is it the best way?

Caravan camera integration is when you combine your pre-existing standard display screen that came with your vehicle with some extra hardware and technology, resulting in the ability to view a caravan reverse camera on your pre-existing screen.

Given that most vehicles now come standard with a decent-size factory screen, it makes sense to use that existing screen rather than clutter up your dash with a second screen. Using your existing screen means your eyes only need to dart to the usual spot that you’re used to before concentrating back on the road. When it comes to safety, the less distraction the better, so this is a much safer option.

Advanced ICE is the market leader when it comes to caravan camera integration, and they allow for a lot more sophistication than the alternatives. This includes the ability to use multiple cameras to monitor blind spots and the ability to choose between showing the vehicle’s camera or the caravan camera. If you’re towing a horse float, you can even install a camera inside your caravan to keep an eye on your horse while you’re driving.

You’ll be able to access your camera view not only when you’re reversing into place but also while driving normally to see what’s happening behind you on the road.

Here’s what caravan camera integration looks like on the Toyota and LC 300 series:
