Is the KickAss PowerBoss the RV power solution you’ve been looking for?

Check out the all-in-one KickAss PowerBoss with an inbuilt inverter and solar regulator to keep you powered off-grid.

KickAss has launched the ultimate off-grid power solution in a compact, all-in-one 12V unit that’s a gamechanger for RVers looking to simplify their power setup.

Billed as the first power solution of its kind, the KickAss PowerBoss is a fully integrated 12V system that combines an inverter, DCDC+MPPT charger and ACDC charger in the one, slimline unit. What that means is you can power up from solar, the alternator battery and mains power without any external components or fiddly wiring.

The fully certified ‘plug and play’ unit integrates with KickAss’s Ultra-X and Smart Lithium batteries and comes with all the hardware you need for standard installation. No sparky required.

KickAss PowerBoss applications

The KickAss is ideal for canopy setups (get the Alternator Installation Kit) and is also compatible with caravans and camper trailers. For this, you will need the Trailer Wiring Kit with a three-pin connection on the towbar and an additional wiring kit connected to the alternator.

While there are other power systems on the market that wire the various components together inside the one housing, the PowerBoss is unique in that the components are inbuilt and developed from the ground up into a fully integrated singular unit. That makes the PowerBoss smaller, lighter (less than 10kg) and cheaper than other power systems.

“The PowerBoss isn’t just multiple components assembled in a box; it’s a truly integrated power solution,” says KickAss.

The PowerBoss features an inbuilt display and Bluetooth connectivity so you can also monitor the charge and power load via a remote display unit or smartphone app.

So, what’s in the box?

  • 2000W inverter with automatic transfer switch and 4000W surge capability
  • 40amp DCDC+MPPT charger
  • 80amp ACDC charger
  • Bluetooth monitoring and control to track power usage in real time via the app on a smartphone or the remote display unit (extra cost).
  • Inbuilt RCBO (Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Over Current Protection) and standard IEC AC input and output connections, meaning there is no direct AC wiring required to install the system, so no need for an electrician.

How big is the PowerBoss?

278mm x 120mm x 400mm and 9.85kg

Cost

KickAss PowerBoss standard – $1,9999

KickAss PowerBoss with remote display – $2099

KickAss PowerBoss Canopy Base Kit with 230Ah Lithium Battery – $3,595

KickAss PowerBoss Canopy Base Kit with 230Ah Slimline Lithium Battery – $3,695

What’s the downside of the PowerBoss?

The PowerBoss doesn’t have the flexibility of a portable power station. If you are after a setup you can move from the car to the camper trailer to the beach, this mounted system is not for you. Because the components are inbuilt, if one fails the whole system is compromised. While it’s not possible to replace an individual faulty component, KickAss offers a two-year warranty and has a replacement policy for when things go wrong. Of course, if the system fails after two years, you’re on your own.

Is the PowerBoss worth it?

If you are looking for an all-in-one 12V power solution for your vehicle, or are retrofitting a caravan or camper, the PowerBoss is a no-fuss, good value option. It’s compact, light, easy to use and designed for DIY installation. If portability is important to you, or you plan to use multiple appliances with a heavy power draw, you may want to consider a portable power station or a solution with a larger inverter.
