Picture this: you’re cruising down a winding road, the sun setting behind you as the wind whips through your hair. But instead of your old caravan, you’re nestled in the sleek, futuristic interior of a Tesla Cybertruck.

This revolutionary electric pickup truck just got a major upgrade with the unveiling of the “Space Camper” attachment. With this new add-on, you can transform your Cybertruck into the ultimate mobile home, complete with the amenities you need for a comfortable, convenient camping experience.

So forget everything you thought you knew about roughing it in the great outdoors. We’re about to take you through the new era of camping, Cybertruck-style.

What’s the inspiration behind the Cybertruck?

The Cybertruck’s body is based on a sports car that Elon Musk owned in 2013, a 1976 Lotus Esprit. The design inspiration came from movies Blade Runner, Mad Max, Back to the Future and Alien. The prototype hit the streets of Manhattan in May, 2021. We then saw hundreds of New Yorkers line up outside the Tesla showroom simply to catch a glimpse of it.

What is the Space Camper attachment?

The Space Camper is the brainchild of the California-based company, Space Campers. Priced at $34,000 AUD, this clever contraption slots perfectly into the truck bed of the Cybertruck. When activated, it extends outwards and upwards, creating enough space for two people to catch some Z’s on the built-in bed. And if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you can even opt for the ‘stargazing mode’ and sleep under the stars.

According to the team behind the model, this wedge-style attachment allows Cybertruck drivers to ‘pull up anywhere and set up camp in minutes’.

So, if you want to take your camping experience to the next level, you can add some nifty accessories, like a film projector, shower, and a fully-functioning kitchen. How’s that for luxury camping?

How do you install the Space Camper?

To install the Space Camper, you’ll need to make a pilgrimage to the company’s headquarters in San Luis Obispo, California, where the camper will be secured to the bed of the pickup with a series of small clamps. Once it’s in place, you’re ready to camp!

How does the Space Camper work?

It’s easy peasy! Just unlatch the Space Camper’s roof and flip a switch, and the camper will be raised in ’30 seconds or less’. The awning-style poles extend out and prop up the roof, and you can roll down the Space Camper’s tent wall and strap it into the truck tailgate. Voila! You’ve got an 8ft (2.4m) of standing space at its highest point and 6ft (2m) at its lowest.

Inside, there’s a bed with a four-inch (10cm) memory foam mattress that sleeps two. And if you want to enjoy the great outdoors, the space between the awnings opens up, so you can sleep under the stars. When you’re not taking a snooze, the bed doubles as a dinner table or even a projection screen for outdoor movies.

The Space Camper is entirely powered by the Cybertruck’s existing battery, so you don’t have to worry about running out of juice.

Are there add-on accessories?

Let’s not forget about the add-on accessories, like the portable electric cooler, induction cooktop, and instant hot water sink. With optimal wall storage, you’ll have no problem finding a place for your pots, pans, mugs, plates, and spices.

Worried about hygiene? There’s a shower accessory that can be mounted to the camper’s exterior.

Feeling adventurous? You can even install a rack system on the roof of the camper to accommodate solar panels or bicycles.

It’s also available in stainless steel or matte black, but if you want to get fancy, the company can personalise it to your specifications.

Wondering how long it takes to construct each Space Camper?

Only two weeks!

However, it’s expected that mass production of the vehicle won’t begin until 2024.
